Untamed Science
Scientists, Educators, Filmmakers,
We are Untamed Science (formerly The Wild Classroom) and we are dedicated to bringing science into the classroom in a new and exciting way to inspire the next generation. We are doing this through videos that we broadcast on our educational outreach platform Untamed Science and through our traveling presentations.
We all have some advanced training as scientists, whether it is in marine biology, ecology, botany, or molecular biology, but more importantly, what really unites the crew is the passion to explore the living world around us. Even if we all started as scientists, we soon realized how much we enjoyed sharing our experiences and teaching others about what we loved the most.
As both biologists and educators we saw a need for new, interesting, and motivational classroom material to aid teachers to inspire and encourage their students towards careers in science and conservation. Educating our youth about the Earth requires that we present material that appeal just as much to the students as to the teachers. Caring for the environment should be fun, not an effort. Another problem has also been that a lot of educational media resources have often been expensive, money that many school budgets cannot afford. To be able to impact a large number of students we always wanted to make quality educational resources available to everyone - no matter where they live in the world.
Untamed Science together with the connected podcast “Ecogeeks”, have over the last few years received a lot of attention and appreciation from teachers internationally. The website and podcast were finalists in the 2007 Jackson Hole Film Festival in the category Best Use of New Media.
With several members of our crew being marine biologists and as passionate divers, the aquatic environments have always had a special place in our productions. A large part of the upcoming production season involves introducing our students to the fascinating marine biomes and their inhabitants, from colorful corals to pelagic predators.
The site and organization are constantly being updated and a lot is also happening this year behind the scenes so stay connected for the next generation of the Untamed Science classroom!
