Team Dive Rite have just returned from a unique and exciting event in Bonaire. The combined talents, efforts and support of Buddy Dive Resort, Micropore© and TDI created "Mission: TECHPossible." During two one week sessions divers were invited to receive training and orientation in different aspects of technical diving. Each assignment was arranged with a student/Instructor ratio of 4:1. Divers needed to complete 3 of the 4 “assignments” to complete "Mission: TECHPossible, all the specialty equipment was provided by Dive Rite. Presentations by Dive Rite and TDI staff were given every evening. Topics included Cave Diving, Underwater Photography and Solo Diving.

The four Mission: TECHPossible "assignments” and there requirements are as follows:

Assignment 1Mission Briefing ( Shakedown Dive)

Required skills:

Proper weighting, each diver was checked for appropriate weight in many cases weight was removed

Trim and Buoyancy, emphasis’s placed on neutral buoyancy

Fin Kicks; Frog Kick, Modified Frog Kick, Modified Flutter Kick, Back Kick and the Helicopter turn

Mask Clearing, including full removal

S Drill

Deploying a lift bag

All skills needed to be performed while maintaining proper trim.

Assignment 2 Sidemount

Divers learned the history, concepts and techniques including gas management

Required Skills

Fin Kicks; Frog Kick, Modified Frog Kick, Modified Flutter Kick, Back Kick and the Helicopter turn

S Drill

Deploying a lift bag

All skills needed to be performed while maintain proper trim. Deploying a lift bag

Perform gas switches

Recover lost regulator

All skills needed to be performed while maintaining proper trim.

Assignment 3 O2ptima CCR dive

Briefing included, how a rebreather works, review of PPO2, Bailout procedures, buoyancy control with a rebreather

Required skills:

S Drill

Proper Bailout

Student to Instructor ration 1:1

Assignment 4 Try Trimix

Pre-dive briefing included END Equivalent (Narcotic Depth, deco procedures) (dives were planned with no deco limits)

Dive to 100 feet NDL

Tri mix used 21/30 (21 percent Oxygen, 30 percent helium)

Most divers logged at least 100 minutes of bottom time to finish 3 of the 4 skills. Divers that completed the Shakedown dive and 2 of the other 3 “Assignments” qualified for a TDI Intro to Tech Certification. TDI made arrangements to print cards at Buddy Resort. The happy recipients received their “certs” at the Rum Punch Party on Friday Night.

The event was free of charge to all Buddy Dive Resort Guests! Certified Technical divers enjoyed long wall dives at depth up to 200 feet while staying at the resort. They were also able to make arrangements to dive the Windjammer wreck on a guided dive (additional Fee). All in all it was two weeks of fun, adventure, and “Diving something different, Learning something new.”
