We have taken feedback from instructors and CM divers and are thrilled to be releasing the O2ptima CM GEN 2 at DEMA this year!
Building on the success of the O2ptima CM, the 2nd Generation O2ptima CM streamlines the unit into as compact a package as possible. Over six inches (15cm) have been removed from the top to bottom distance, allowing divers of all shapes and sizes to enjoy the O2ptima CM in every environment, from a single tank liveaboard trip to cutting edge global expeditions.
The loop was reimagined to streamline the gas path and further improve work of breathing. 3d counterlungs minimize gas turbulence and reduce the overall profile while maintaining a 6.5 liter loop volume. 35 degree fittings have replaced 90 degree elbows, creating a more direct gas path through the unit. Wider bore loop hoses with increased corrugation allow greater flexibility and less restriction on gas flow. All of these elements combine to bring work of breathing down to nearly 1 joule in a laboratory testing environment.
The O2ptima CM is available with either a Petrel 3 or Nerd controller in Black SuperFabric, or red, blue, OD green, pink or white Cordura.

Where should the unit sit on the chest?
Placement will vary depending on diver shape and size, but for best performance a diver should generally have the top of the bag around the height of the collar bone.
Does the unit require a crossover for already certified O2ptima CM divers?
No. The core functions of the unit remains the same and the upgrade does not require additional training.
Can a 1st Generation O2ptima CM be upgraded?
Yes, there are several upgrade paths for existing Choptima divers. Contact us for details.
How long do the consumables last?
The O2ptima was designed to use the ExtendAir Cartridge for convenience but will also use 812 granular absorbents. Duration is based on water temperature and CO2 production rate. The testing is done using a high flow rate of 1.35 liters of CO2 per minute. Water temperature of 50 degrees at 1.35 flow rate is 3 hours and longer with lower flow rates. Water temperature of 75 degrees at 1.35 flow rate is 4 hours and longer with lower flow rates. Using the recommended 9 volt Lithium battery, the solenoid electronics will average 40 hours under normal use.
What type of training is required to use the O2ptima CM?
All rebreathers, including the O2ptima CM, require specific training before they can be used. You must be certified on the specific model to operate it safely. See Dive Rite's O2ptima Instructor Listing to find an instructor.
What are the routine maintenance requirements?
Routine maintenance for the O2ptima CM involves replacing the galvanic oxygen sensors annually and a full service every year or 100 dives.
Can I switch between granular and cartridge CO2 absorbents?
Yes, the O2ptima CM is designed to accommodate both Micropore ExtendAir cartridges and loose granular absorbents. This versatility allows divers to choose the option that best suits their diving conditions and preferences.
Is the O2ptima CM suitable for travel?
Weighing only 18lbs 2oz (including 1st stage, Cam Straps, P3 controller and HUD), the O2ptima CM is compact and ideal for travel. Its chest-mounted design allows it to be rolled up and stored in a carry-on, making it easy to transport.
Was the O2ptima CM designed to function well with a BOV?
The O2ptima CM was designed to be easily added or removed from your kit. It was not designed for use with a BOV. Some divers have adapted it for that purpose, but it has not been tested for these modifications.
